They didn't really know why they were doing it, but they did know how they felt. After a year in which everything had been uphill for them, despite their youth, they were counting the hours until 2020 was over.
Those 12 months had started on the right foot, with one of them starting a master's degree, the other getting her first job and the eldest getting a small promotion. But in March everything became complicated for Margarita, Ceci and Sol, who experienced layoffs, breakups and a grandfather who, without warning, fell by the wayside.
So, seeing how strange December 31st was going to be, when they woke up in the morning they made a decision: they would wear the dresses that Aunt Bernar had given them months before for New Year's Eve.
The poor girl, somewhat lost in her mind, had not understood that there would be no occasion to take them, so the three cousins looked for her in her honour. They walked through the park, hours before lunch, simply to enjoy the day.
Once home, they dressed in their best clothes, opened the champagne that Grandma Chari loved so much, tidied up the house and spent time in the kitchen, telling anecdotes and laughing, while their family took turns at the hospital.
And they toasted, they toasted loudly so that Grandma would get out of that situation, because thanks to her and for her they celebrated the end of a stage. They guarded their house and were able to welcome a new year full of plans (real plans), some requests, the desire for hugs and hope, lots of hope.
